1.Use the concepts of “author” and “reader” to explain the idea behind the statement “Opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one”(beginning of Chap 3).
All opinions, no matter how silly, are equally important.

Explain the following by using an example.

Signifier: the word

Referent: it’s thing

Signified: what it symbolizes

“Words have meaning only in specific contexts: they don’t “mean something naturally or mystically.”” Explain in your own words what this means.
Words only stand as certain symbols in certain contexts. They don’t only have a double meaning when given one.

Explain the difference between Metaphor and Metonymy.

Metaphor is when you are referring to one thing by mentioning another. While Metonymy is when you use a different name for something to imply its meaning.
